Analysis of Interleukin 2 Receptor IL-2R and Type III Procollagen-N-peptide P-III-P in a Case of Retroperitoneal Fibrosis

چکیده
A case of retroperitoneal fibrosis is described along with serological findings during the therapeutic course. An 81-year-old man with diabetes mellitus treated by insulin therapy was admitted because of bilateral pretibial edema. Abdominal computed tomography demonstrated tumorous lesions around the abdominal aorta and the hilum of the spleen. Open biopsy specimens showed excessive production of fibrous tissue and chronic inflammatory cells. We therefore diagnosed this case as retroperitoneal fibrosis and administered prednisolone. Serological abnormalities included the elevation of C-reactive protein, interleukin 2 receptor IL-2R and type III procollagen-N-peptide P-III-P before the start of therapy. These levels improved simultaneously with the reduction of the tumorous lesions around the abdominal aorta and the hilum of the spleen. We considered IL-2R to be a marker indicating activation of retroperitoneal fibrosis, and P-III-P demonstrated the excessive production of collagen fibers in this disease.

Propeptide levels of type III and type I procollagen in the serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis.
No single test is available to reliably assess the activity or prognosis of pulmonary sarcoidosis. In this study, we have evaluated two procollagen markers, aminoterminal propeptide of type III procollagen (PIIINP) and carboxyterminal propeptide of type I procollagen (PICP) in serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and compared them to other disease markers of pulmonary sarcoidosis, such...
متن کاملSerum levels of soluble TNF alpha receptor type I and the severity of systemic sclerosis.
Several abnormalities of cytokines have been shown to occur in systemic scleroderma; however their correlation with clinical parameters is controversial. Since serum concentrations of cytokine receptors have been shown to correlate with inflammatory processes, including systemic sclerosis, the aim of our study was to compare serum concentrations of TNF alpha receptor type 1 with the concentrati...
متن کامل[Interleukin-4 and cardiac fibrosis in patients with heart failure].
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) stimulates inflammatory responses, activates collagen synthesis, promotes fibrosis progression, and inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines. We studied the relationship between the urinary IL-4 level and levels of markers of cardiac fibrosis and left ventricular volume in 98 patients with heart failure (HF). The left ventricular end-systolic volume index (LVESVI) ...
متن کاملElevated circulating soluble interleukin-2 receptor in patients with chronic liver diseases is associated with non-classical monocytes
BACKGROUND The soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R, sIL2R, sTAC, sCD25) is a reliable biomarker for disease activity in inflammatory disorders such as sarcoidosis. Based on the essential pathogenic role of inflammation for progression of liver diseases, we hypothesized that sIL-2R might be an indicator of inflammatory cell activation and disease severity in patients with chronic liver diseas...
متن کاملChanges in coagulation condition, cytokine, adhesion molecule after repair of type A aortic dissection.
OBJECTIVE Because residual dissection often exists even after the repair of a type A dissection, we evaluated coagulation conditions, cytokine levels, and adhesion molecule levels in mid-term follow up after repair of type A dissections. METHODS Thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), D-dimer, soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule (sICAM)-1, and typ...
